Pond Rule

It reads "Ducks Only" - but we saw fish, and turtles swimming, too!
Guess, they can't read.

Sign of things to come...

I was delighted to see this sign - I bet the new Children's Garden will be really nice. Hope it will have a tree swing, and some nice kid friendly water fountains - and butterflies and tulips... and statues and more! I can't wait to see it. Botanica is such a nice place. If you ever come to Wichita, be sure to go there. It's just about time (or maybe it IS time) for the annual tulip show.

Old sign

This old sign also hangs on the wall of the restaurant.
While it looks like new, it's the $7 a week that tells of it's age.
I'm thinking the hotel was probably near St Francis Hospital, and rented to a lot of nurse.

Can you spell that?...

This railroad crossing sign reminds me of childhood. It reminds me of the times when Grandma would stop at a railroad crossing with a sign like this, and would present the following question...
"Railroad crossing, watch out for the cars, can you spell that without any R's?"
Being young children and not processing the question exactly as it was asked, we would strain our brains trying to spell what she had said without any Rs. And, then finally after we'd been stumped a while, and the train had passed, she would spell that for us - "T H A T". After all the question was can you spell THAT without any R's?
And, then we'd all wave to the man in the caboose and he'd wave back.
Oh to be young again, to the times when such simple things brought pleasure and excitement.
Now, as a stuffy old adult, I just want the train to hurry up and pass, so I can go on my way. Unless, of course, grandkids are with me, to whom I can ask Grandma's brain straining question.
By the way, the sign in this photo no longer warns of train crossings,
it now decorates the wall of a local restaurant.

Jack's Hamburgers

When I took this photo, I noticed the Hamburger Stand was closed for remodeling. Good timing, since it's located very close to the Minisa Bridge that's also closed for remodeling. From what I read - this is another long lasting place of business - established in 1951. Hamburgers can be ordered with - mustard, mayonaise, ketchup, onions, tomato, pickles, lettuce, jalapeno peppers, cheese, bacon... and more.

Tell me - what do you like on your hamburgers.

My order is usually - cheese, mayonaise, onion and tomato - and sometimes bacon.

No right turn

Downtown Wichita has some One-Way streets, some going; south, north, east and west. I'm guessing this to be the reason for this "no right turn" sign, if a car turned right at this intersection, they would probably be driving towards oncoming traffic.

Stop sign

This is a standard American Stop Sign, if interested, you can read about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_sign
wikipedia states:
"Stop sign used in English-speaking countries, as well as in the European Union"
A question for DCPBloggers who have a primary language other than English -
Do your stop signs look like this?
What is your language, and how do you say Stop?
With the help of an online translater I've come up with these translations of "stop".
French - arrêter
German - anhalten
Portugese - parar
Russian - остановитесь
Spanish - parar

Blue Moon

As I saw this lovely neon sign,
I wondered how it would photograph,
and I spent the evening with a melancholy (blue) tune playing in my mind.
Blue moon,
You saw me standing alone,
Without a dream in my heart,
Without a love of my own.
Blue moon,
You knew just what Iwas there for.
You heard me saying a pray for
Someone I really could care for.
- - - - - - - -
Maybe the moon is made out of blue cheese.

Shhhhhh...

I wanted to post this sign yesterday, to go with the Grizzly Bears, but saw yesterday was a first day of the month Theme Day. So, now continuing on am posting this grizzly warning sign. I've rarely had trouble sleeping, when woke up, I can usually go right back to sleep. But, some aren't so lucky and if they get woke up - they wake up grouchy and growl.

Now entering

Now entering Wichita, Ks, from the east.
