Riverside Pagoda

For as long as I can recall, this cute little building has graced the grounds of Riverside Park. It's always reminded me of a Chinese Style Building - a Pagoda in the park. I don't know what it's original purpose was, or what it's used for currently. All I know - is it is probably remembered by many who have been to this city park. I bet Steve Buser of New Orleans remembers it. It's not far from the Rocket Slide, and is near the area where Wichita's original zoo was located. It was a little zoo, with very few animals. It had aligators, monkeys, bears, and an assortment of birds. Most of the animals who had called this park their home, were relocated to Wichita's Sedgwick Co Zoo, when it was built. But, some animals still reside in a Kansas Wildlife exhibit in Riverside Park. I'm so impressed with the way this park has been maintained, and added to throughout the years. It's certainly one of Wichita's finest.

Stuck on Cat tails

I just love these things.

Cat Tail

When I was a child, riding along the country roads in our car, and would spot a clump of cat tails beside a pond - - I would ask "can I get out and get a cat tail?" Sometimes, if time allowed, I was allowed. I would take it to wherever we were headed (Grandma's usually) and when we arrived I would get out of the car, and place both hands on the cat tail. I would then twist it with each hand going different directions, and the cat tail would fluff up and out in billowy form. It was a treat to see this, simple country entertainment for a child. I love this plant that grows near ponds, lakes and streams. This photo was taken at Riverside Park in Wichita Ks.

Touching water

There's just something about a refreshing pool of water, on a hot sunny day,

that makes a person want jump in and swim, or at very least - to touch it with a finger or a toe.

Loco Joes

I hear this place in downtown Wichita is going to start serving mexican food. I'll have to check it out - maybe I'll take a walk around the downtown streetscape statues and grab a taco at Loco Joe's, this weekend.

Happy Independence Day!

Creek crossing

What a fun way for children to cross a creek, and when dismounted on the other side, they run back around to do it again. But, first they have to pull the rope to bring the pulley and seat back to the platform, where they can get back on and zoom over the creek again. The creek was tiny, not dangerous, in the case of someone falling off, even though the kids held on tight. This photo was also taken at Eberly Farm in Wichita, Ks. It's a great place for family fun. They had lots to do, including a farm animal petting area, swimming pool, fishing, barrel ride, and more.

July1, 2008 Theme Day - The word "No"

Even though, I didn't sign up to participate in this month's theme day, I noticed the topic is the word "No". This "No Smoking" sign posted on the wagon ride at Eberly Farm in Wichita Ks, ties in nicely with this months theme photos.
