I remember seeing a pump like that when I was younger and not being allowed to touch it. So I really love the sculpture of this kid who's scampered up there and is trying to use every bit of his (her?) strength to get that water flowing.
You had to prime the pitcher pump before you could get it to pump. That required putting water in the top of it, so you had to have water to get water.

Did I ever do that? I don't remember - it's been so long ago. :)
